Cupcake Bakers We Love: Molly Bakes!

By Cate Sevilla

I’m all about supporting women who are doing it for themselves, and Molly of the glamorous cupcake bakery, Molly Bakes, is no different.

At the beginning of 2009, Molly lost her job just days before her 24th birthday. After a few months of Unemployment Boredom and after she had “seriously run out of things to do”, Molly remembered she had a secret recipe for cupcakes in her mother’s cook book.

After whipping up some magnificent multi-colored cupcakes for her friends, she “finally gave into peer pressure” and started to sell her delicious cakes.

While most of us would have drowned our unemployment sorrows into Buffy DVD box sets and developing an unhealthy relationship with the Dominos delivery man – Molly turned her passion into a business, and is wowing people all over the UK with her fabulous cakes.

Molly says she’s “inspired by Pin-Up girls and an era where women could be domestic goddesses but still considered sexy” and as Molly has a background in fashion, this baker certainly understands what’s fab, and what’s not.

The fashion and media scene are digging her cupcakes, and even Revlon say that Molly’s Red Velvet cupcakes are “the best they’ve ever had”.

Molly tells us that while her personal favorite cupcake she makes is the original buttery vanilla, as she’s “old fashioned at heart”, and her most popular cupcakes are the Cookies ‘n Cream and Red Velvet flavors.

So what set’s Molly Bakes’s cupcakes apart?

Why should you eat her cupcakes instead of the long established Hummingbird Bakery?

For one, her cakes really do say GLAMOR all over them

Secondly, her flavors are as unique as they are delicious. In addition to the Cookies ‘n Cream and Red Velvet cakes, she also has:

- Pum Maderia with White Chocolate Orange Frosting

- Fig with Yogurt Frosting

- Banana with Cinnamon & Honey frosting

Molly tells us that she’s always making new and seasonal favourites, so she always has something new to offer.

The Molly Bakes website is still in the works, but you can follow her on Twitter, became a fan of her on Facebook.

To order cupcakes from Molly Bakes, you can phone her at  07932 016 739 or email her at info AT mollybakes DOT co DOT UK

I bought a box of these from the market on Brick Lane and they were superb! The lemon poppy seed and chocolate fudge were my faves. I can't wait until my birthday, I'm going to order my birthday cake from Molly!
