My home is one of those uncomfortable conundrums. I have all these preconceived ideas about what my perfect house will look like – I plan the interior design, the layout, the atmosphere and the cupboards.
Every square inch (or centimetre if you want it metrically) has been thought through many a time in my mind, yet a certain something is lacking. That something is, if I am honest, follow through.
My room in my parent’s house is an idyllic oasis of gentle paint, matching cushions and gorgeous furniture – because I finally set aside time to do it. Oh, and because I don’t live in it and can’t untidy it! Living in a rental flat, however, I can’t really decorate, and as such I ignore the idea entirely!
One thing I can do, however, is cushions. My bedroom has some big red ones, but my living room needs some more. I fully believe cushions are the best way to make a room look clever and intentional, even if it just happens to be that way through luck! With this in mind, here are my favourite Etsy picks for some smashing attention grabbing cushions!
Let’s start subtle, shall we. These botanical print cushions from Lilybethegoodies on Etsy have a lovely simple print. They're the perfect initiation for people with a gentle inoffensive room!

Next, we are still in the reasonably normal arena, but this handmade grey felted cushion from FeltLoveCymru on Etsy is a cushion for people who love modern stuff, who have uncomfortable sofas that look fucking great, and who damn well know it! I want to be one of these people.

Next, let us go a little more wild. Lets bring in some funky prints for the interior-ally brave, those of you who are happy with more than one colour, and who probably have an over-arching theme to your entire house. How about making a kooky statement with this Union jack cushion from helkatdesign?

Alternative, go French, vintage and traditional with this amazing French vintage crewel organic buckwheat cushion, which would work just as well in some ancient manor as it would in a modern minimalist flat. Variety is the spice of life!

Finally, I am going to through away all reservations. These are the silly, stupid and downright brilliant cushions that I found. I can’t quite think of any logical way to justify them, except to say that fashion should be fun. The first, the Boston Terrier cushion on Etsy is just perfect for a modern yet quirky flat, or place on a traditional sofa in an unexpected home.

The last one is, apparently, a folk art pieces. I look at folksy deer cushion and go “ooh, deer” and then “oooh, claw” (note extra o for real emphasis). It may well be that it is a raining cloud, but the top left had corner looks like a big pair of claws to me! It is just great!
