What does your kitchen look like?
Is it clean, tidy, and as if you have Martha Stewart hiding in your pantry?
Would you be more than happy for your inlaws to come into your kitchen right at this moment, and serve up a dinner party?
Yeah, me neither.
In one of those ever popular surveys conducted by the UK’s most popular appliance brand Hotpoint, it was discovered that 12% of the people asked felt too embarrassed by the state of their kitchen and home to invite somebody over.
37% of those feel like their interior design skills are lacking (aka crap) and 25% revealed that they spend most of their time at home in the kitchen.
Considering most of us are hardly home anyway, and spend a good 6+ hours sleeping in our bedroom – we actually do spend a lot of time in our kitchens. So why not make it so that we actually want to be in there?
Interior Designer Kelly Hoppen has teamed up with Hotpoint to launch a campaign to help people build confidence in their kitchens and their homes. Yes, Hoppen and Hotpoint want you to be house-proud, dammit.
Hoppen says that there are plenty of things you can do to jazz up your kitchen, including:
Declutter
Getting rid of “dead space” and using internal storage as much as possible.
Upgrade!
While obviously not many of us can afford to upgrade every appliance in our kitchen, investing in one new piece, such as the – ahem - Hotpoint’s Quadrio free standing fridge and freezer will help “make a statement” in your kitchen, according to Kelly.

Be Different & Inspiring
Kelly Hoppen says it’s OK to go nuts and do something a little out of the norm. In the same vain, she suggests doing things like buying cheap glass containers and vases and sticking things like rope, fake flowers, and vegetables in them.
Lighting & Mood
Apparently having more light than you think you’ll need is key, and you can set the mood by having (more) fake flowers in a glass vase with “added stones or compost at the bottom to create depth and a sense of fertility in your kitchen”. Yes. Set the mood with fertility. Your ovaries will thank you.
