While most people pride themselves on their knowledge of fine wine, fairtrade espresso, and growing their own vegetables - I pride myself in being a connoisseur of snacks. From Chex Mix, to Gardettos, to

I learned something odd this week. Did you know that pickled ginger you put on your sushi often contains aspartame? Seriously. I was reading the back of a carrot ginger salad dressing bottle and right there in the ingredients: aspartame. I took to the google machine and found out aspartame is used to pickle ginger in place of sugar. I would rather ingest the extra calories from sugar, thank you very much. So in an effort to avoid franken-food I'll be steering clear of the pretty pink mountain...

We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but that doesn’t have to entail a soggy piece of toast or a Pop-Tart. These muffins are quick to prepare and packed full of flavor to keep you satisfied all morning!Breakfast will forever remain my favorite meal of the day and a big bowl of cereal holds particular importance in my daily routine. Every so often, however, I need to shake up the morning with some scrambled...

I’m not exactly ready to let Valentine’s Day go. And really, the spirit of Valentine’s Day should live on year round, don’t you think? We should be telling those we love that we love them every day. We should be doing nice things for them every day. We should be making truffles for them (and ourselves) every day. Right?

There comes a time when we all have to grow up. Maybe it’s when you stopped falling asleep with a bucket next to your bed on weekends. We all have our life markers. I like to mark mine with shopping habits. In my early 20s, I threw my clothes everywhere, barely made the bed, stomped all over my mismatched towels and my idea of home decor was sticking a few kitschy magnets on my fridge. I like to partially blame all the random house shares I lived in. When you’re schlepping cardboard boxes and...

It's that time of year again. The most wonderful time of year, as far as I'm concerned. I'm all for homemade Christmas. But homemade Valentine's Day is really where it's at. Whip up these mini loaves, send them off tied up nice with a ribbon to a few potential suitors and wait for them to them to mob you Zack Morris style.

It's rare that anything Valentine's Day related makes me giddy with excitement. (Other than heart-shaped mixing bowls, of course.) But there is something about the Hummingbird Bakery's limited edition Box of Chocolates cupcakes that makes me want to light a few candles, pop open a bottle of bubbly, and get hot and heavy with this sweet box ...

Once considered the arbiters of la haute cuisine, the French are losing their edge. Top chefs in Japan and America are moving up in the ranks with the winning combination of ingenuity, flavor and risk. Less interested in infusing punch into classic recipes, many French dishes, particularly chicken, suffer from a case of same old, same old. Tweaking their recipes just a tad would make all the difference. But how?

I like to joke that I have the delicate digestive balance of a Victorian lady. I joke, but it's basically true, so I'm always looking for ways to omit wheat (a major tummy-upsetter for me) while still getting to eat what I want. One day the other week, when I was feeling particularly nostalgic for the wonder that is breaded food, I whipped out some tofu and cornmeal and crossed my fingers.

Tomorrow is February 1st, and we all know what that means:VALENTINE'S DAY ONSLAUGHT!Most shops are already pushing V-Day, and there are quite a few pink, red, love-themed prodcuts out there. However, the delightful thing is, that despite them being associated with Valentine's Day, a lot of the "day of love" products are quite cool looking!
