Once considered the arbiters of la haute cuisine, the French are losing their edge. Top chefs in Japan and America are moving up in the ranks with the winning combination of ingenuity, flavor and risk. Less interested in infusing punch into classic recipes, many French dishes, particularly chicken, suffer from a case of same old, same old. Tweaking their recipes just a tad would make all the difference. But how?

I like to joke that I have the delicate digestive balance of a Victorian lady. I joke, but it's basically true, so I'm always looking for ways to omit wheat (a major tummy-upsetter for me) while still getting to eat what I want. One day the other week, when I was feeling particularly nostalgic for the wonder that is breaded food, I whipped out some tofu and cornmeal and crossed my fingers.

Tomorrow is February 1st, and we all know what that means:VALENTINE'S DAY ONSLAUGHT!Most shops are already pushing V-Day, and there are quite a few pink, red, love-themed prodcuts out there. However, the delightful thing is, that despite them being associated with Valentine's Day, a lot of the "day of love" products are quite cool looking!

This year for Christmas I was given a calendar; a calendar with cupcakes all over it. Not only do I now know the date off by heart, but I'm always hungry. (It has its got pros and cons.) It has one design for every month of the year, and in a fit of New Year-driven enthusiasm I decided that each month I'd try to create my own at-home version all with things from the supermarket and the aid of my shaky hands.

My mother, bless her, has been boiling cauliflower within an inch of its life for as long as I remember. I always assumed I hated cauliflower. The smell would set off visceral memories of overly soft, tasteless mush with a slightly cabbage-y undertone. Bleh. Gag.
In an effort to add a little variety to my vegetable eating, I decided to give cauliflower another try. On my terms. In the oven. And boy did I luck out. Everything tastes better roasted, even cauliflower.

I'm sure that very few of us actually wear aprons.
Maybe when we're BBQing. Maybe when we're making a cake and just happen to not be wearing pyjamas. And even then, if we own aprons, we probably just have them because they're cute and would probably never dare to get flour, egg or - god forbid - red velvet cake batter on it. (Can you imagine the stains!?)

Simply put, I love dogs. Short ones, fat ones, teeny ones, spotted ones - I'm not sure I've ever met a dog I didn't like.
Sadly, I don't have a dog at home. I'm sure there are plenty of us out there that would love to have a pup to call our own, but our modern lady lifestyles just don't allow it.

Halfway through January and everyone is already counting down to the next big holiday. With post-vacation stress and disappearing free time, where do you find the time to cook? Never fear, a simple and quick salad is here. For many, January is the most overwhelming and unpleasant month of the year. It means back to work with an intimidating inbox, new objectives to reach, more hours to devote to your computer and the stress of having just come down fro...

I'm not sure what possessed me to decide to start a labor intensive Mediterranean delicacy halfway into a monster cold. But I did. And boy was I glad to have leftovers to soothe me through the remaining days of my viral sentence.
Yes, this is going to take a while, but really worth it, I promise.

Some things, as the Guardian's Fashion supplement points out, should not be crossed in to. Namely they mean fashion designers on Twitter, but today I saw a campaign that made me look twice: Cars doing craft sites? I put on my sceptical face and investigated.
