Whittling: The Classic Pastime Just Got Cooler

Now, being an artsy fartsy designer type by trade I am open to some craft action here and there. I like to knit when the mood takes, and having kids is the perfect excuse to get the paper out and cover everything in paste. In our switched on multi-screen, multi-tasking lives the trend for going back to basics is gaining momentum. Brands like Levis are using this seed tre...

Vegan Nibbles: Ginger Snaps

Making sure you vegans aren't left out, I'd like to supplement Lindsey Tramuta's wonderful Gingerbread recipe with some vegan-friendly ginger snaps. This recipe uses pure maple syrup instead of granulated sugar as its sweetener. And while the maple flavor adds an interesting complexity, I believe in my heart of hearts, every cookie needs a crunch.

BitchBuzz Gift Guide: The Crafty and Kitschy

We all have those people in our lives who are there solely to make us feel inadequate. Well, at least inadequate when it comes to their immaculate homes,  never mind their amazing crafting and hosting skills. They’re the people who could knit an amazing sweater with their eyes closed, host a dinner party for 10 on a Tuesday without panicking, and always manage to find awesome knick-knacks for their home at car boot sales and charity shops.

Holiday Favorites: Gingerbread Cookies!

Not everyone can master the art of the French Yule Log cake for the holidays but I’ve got just the festive recipe to please all sweet taste buds, young and old. For an American in Paris, there is very little time to recover from the turkey gorging at Thanksgiving before it’s on to thinking about and preparing for the December holiday season. In France this means exquisitely decadent and sumptuous savory and sweet treats that are more than a little inti...

Vegan Nibbles: Tahini Rice Salad

This is the perfect way to use up that mound of leftover rice you have hiding in the back of your refrigerator from the other night’s takeout. It is also a perfect bright and fresh recipe to cleanse your palate after all those stodgy Thanksgiving foods. Plus, it takes about five seconds to put together. As Ina would say, how easy is that?

TG Green's "Cornish Red" Cornishware Range

To say that TG Green’s blue and white Cornishware is a British Classic would be an understatement. First created in Cornwall in the 1920s, Cornishware become a fixture in many British homes and kitchens. In the 1960s Cornishware was updated by designer Judith Onions, and her restyled take on the original crockery was so popular it quickly turned in to a collectors items. Sadly, in 2007 the factory closed down,  however, Cornishware fans and admirers came to the rescue!

Crafty DIY Holiday Decorations

It is too late to deny that Christmas is pretty much here. Suddenly we are merely days away from December, and judging by the fact that it is bloody freezing outside, I should have started my Christmas shopping months ago. Along with the present buying and the inevitable getting trapped in mile long queues, you also have to worry about the decorating the tree and making your living room into a grotto of wonderful glittery craziness.

Leftover Heaven: Fried Pumpkin Patties

Come Thanksgiving I am overrun by pumpkin.  Pumpkin treats for the roommates, pumpkin pie for family dinner, pumpkin spice lattes for me.  Somehow, when all the pumpkining is through and I’m putting the last pie in the oven there is always pumpkin leftover.  At first I took to baking mini-pies, but that requires making mini-crusts, and making crusts for leftovers when you’ve already been baking all day is way too much of a hassle.  So, my laziness and thrif...

Vegan Nibbles: Thanksgiving Lentil Loaf

A friend and I were joking the other day that without Clarissa Explains It All, I could have been a completely different person. I was entirely obsessed with Clarissa Darling as a kid and however consciously or subconsciously, this childhood fixation laid out my entire life. For example: I played the flute, grew to love The Violent Femmes, moved to New York City for college, majored in journalism, became a vegetarian, and had a boyfriend named Clifford Spleenhurfer (possible...
