If you’re going to finally give in and give your home a bit of a Spring clean, you might as well buy a few new bits and pieces and spruce the place up, non? (Because sometimes having a clean flat isn’t as nice as having a clean flat with new things in it.)While it seems that every interiors shop in the world is trying to shove retro/vintage/kitschy crap down your throat, I’ve found a shop that can do vintage without making it seem gimmicky, and whimsical without being ironic. ...

The recent explosion of Eyjafjallajokull has caused untold disruption to the world over the past week. I’m sure that there are very few people, especially in Europe, who have not been untouched by this natural disaster either directly or indirectly. The newspapers, always guaranteed to provide a nice supply of negative stories have been whooping and screaming about the devastation that this natural disaster will have on our day-to-day lives, as opposed to the ecological consequences. O...

Decorating a house is a big thing. It is big business too – interior design companies and shops make millions of pounds every year selling the latest themes and the newest must-have fabrics. The thing is, however, that not all of us have the money to go changing our decoration as soon as the mood takes us – there are bills to think about, and the furniture, and all manner of complicating problems. Whilst it would certainly be lovely to be able to change a room to suit our mood, it simply isn’...

You know that episode of Friends when Monica tries to get over Richard by making jam, the opposite of man? And Joey proclaims, “Remember when your mom used to drop you off at the movies with a jar of jam and a spoon?” Oh, Joey, you and I have so much in common. Jam is the best. It goes on just about anything and you can claim you’re getting one of your five a day!

Do you have a haven – somewhere in your home where you can retreat on a bad day? Somewhere where the weather can’t get in and make you miserable? Somewhere were you can curl up with a glass of wine and a good book? Somewhere that makes you feel safe after a near accident driving home, or following a catastrophic night out?

I’d like to make one thing clear. The seemingly newfound obsession with cupcakes is not a trend. In fact, the passion for cupcakes has existed long before Carrie Bradshaw popularized the childhood indulgence on Sex and the City with her unabashed love for NYC’s Magnolia Bakery. I’ve been eating cupcakes since I started going to birthday parties where the fluffy, diminutive treats were central to the festivities.

Ah! Spring is finally, really here! Birds are singing, flowers are blooming and for some strange reason it was over 90 degrees Fahrenheit last week! Needless to say I was definitely in the mood for some springy, belly goodness, but unfortunately the supermarket wasn’t reflecting the glorious weather outside. During my shopping quest two stores let me down on the basil front, so I decided to shake up my definition of pesto and try something a little less traditional.

Lighting your home is probably one of the most important things to consider when redecorating. After all, the light in a room can in turn make it soft and sexy – or bright and clinical. That makes a big difference when trying to seduce someone – or interrogate them! It can be the perfect shade for reading in an oxblood armchair, or for taking a nap in front of the TV. It can lend itself to wild raves and midnight booze fuelled parties, or to flower pressing on a Sunday afternoon. In s...

Over the Christmas holiday in the States, I took possession of this recipe for Crab Tartelettes and I am admittedly proud of my culinary skills which seem to be improving with every recipe I steal procure. This little gem comes from "Tapas" by Tee and Doeser with my modifications. It’s easy and creates leftovers for several days which, to me, is ...

Crêpes are fancy, delicious and easier to make than you might think. The real secret behind making perfect pancakes à la France, is RELAX! Seriously. Someone should have told me to relax over the weekend when my freak out resulted in tears sizzling on a hot pan. My crêpes kept tearing and sticking, until I finally broke down, dropped to my knees and screamed, “It’s not possible! Vegan crêpes can’t be done! Damn you eggs!!”
