Warm Autumn Delights: Apple Crumble Muffins

With baking, if you get the underlying equation right, you can experiment with all the fun bits like fillings, toppings and decoration. For these muffins I used a base recipe for plain muffins and used my taste buds to guide me from there! The base was Rachel Allen's 30 day muffin recipe from Bake; it lasts up to 30 days in the fridge, so you make a huge batch and then just use a bit of ...

Tasty Quickie: Spinach & Parmesan Crusted Salmon

On this week's Celebrity Come Dine With Me, that man what used to be on Catchphrase, Roy Walker, created a rather interesting looking cheese crusted fish dish. His fellow celebs claimed it was delicious, and while I personally thought it looked like fish spread with Primula, the basic principle sparked off a light-bulb in my little old brain box.

Knoborama: Perfect Knobs for Drawers & Doors

While we may have a hard time saying “we love knobs” without giggling, we seriously do.And even though I may not personally be very crafty or DIY savvy, I do know a good knob when I see it.Whether it’s on a door or a drawer, there’s something about a fancy knob that can really change the way your room or piece of furniture looks. Like a fresh coat of paint, replacing the knobs your dres...

Classy Vintage China from Poppy Greens

The UK seems to be awash with tea sets, tea parties and cupcakes; the more the merrier, say I.Poppy Greens is a welcome addition to the vintage tea party, providing elegant china hire, the obligatory bitesize sweet treats and very pretty ‘cottage garden’ flowers.

Tried and Tested: Ambrosia Crumble Puds

Nothing rounds off a meal better than a big ol' bowl of crumble, drizzled in sweet, thick custard. However, nothing causes one's arse to expand more rapidly than a big ol' bowl of crumble, drizzled in sweet, thick custard. You really can't beat a home made dessert like crumble, but it is an occasional treat, for the aforementioned reasons.

Tasty Quickie: Spicy Sausage and Baked Bean Casserole

Sausages need not simply be served with mash, a fry-up or in a sandwich. Nor for that matter, must baked beans be confined to mere toast and jacket potatoes. Liberate these foods and allow them to emancipate one another in this delicious sausage and baked bean casserole! Hyperbole aside, this is a hearty, not massively unhealthy dish that is a quick and easy winter warmer, that is also great heated up for lunch the next day.

Toys for Grown-Ups: Vinyl Stickers

Stickers were great for putting on plastic Care Bear lunch boxes, although they aren't so trendy nowadays. If you're a Mac owner did you open your shiny new computer box, joyfully pull out the white apple-shaped stickers proceed to stick them all over your thousand pound machine?I didn't, because I am a snob and like the idea of my shiny machine staying sleek not looking like '90s garbage. Sleek now it is not having added one small dent and some dirt to its repertoire). ...

Tasty Quickie: Lamb Braised with Red Wine & Berries

Now that it's cold again, my slow cooker has gone into overdrive. I had neglected it somewhat over the summer, but now I am using it once again to make stews, soups and roast meats galore. Sounds a bit Henry VIII doesn't it? Clearly there is a flaw in using a 'slow' cooker for a tasty 'quickie', but actually, most dishes made in it require very little preparation, and you can leave it cooking all day while you're doing other stuff, so in terms of time and effort required from you, it i...

5 Fabulous Non-Mobile Phones For Your Home

While I hardly know anyone under the age of 35 that actually uses their home landline instead of their mobile phone – I still love how non-mobile phones look and feel.Sure every time I go to use one I get a bit confused about not having to press “call”, but they’re still nifty to have in your home.

Herbivorous: Baked Ziti

Baked Ziti is a classic American pasta dish, that is essentially like a big baked bolognese. Perfect, easy to make comfort food for a chilly Autumn. Traditionally it has meat in it, but has the kind of sauce, that so long as you stick to the tomato base, and slather it with cheese, you can throw in, or not throw in, whatever you fancy. In this recipe, delicious cannellini beans, a personal favourite, and mushrooms take the place of meat.
