When I get bored of biscuits, brownies, or even cupcakes with two inches worth of frosting on top - I love nothing more than to make these lemon drizzle poppy seed cupcakes. I found the original recipe for these cupcakes in The Guardian about a year ago. The recipe is by Dan Leopard, except his recipe calls for almonds, instead of poppy seeds, and is baked in a loaf tin as a full cake, rathe...

It may not shock you to learn that I fucking love cooking shows. With Nigella currently off-air, and having tired of Come Dine With Me (something I didn't think possible until I set it to series-record on my freeview box), my attentions are turned to Levi Roots' (of Reggae Reggae fame) BBC2 show, Caribbean Food Made Easy.

While you guys have been feasting your eyes and hopefully bellies on a plethora of my delicious recipes from the past year, I have been finding time between Estrella guzzling, and beach sleeping to cook up some local ingredients in Spain.

I’m definitely opposed to boring dinnerware, and am easily bored with department store and homewares shop selling the same sets of plates, bowls and cups. It seems difficult to find dinner sets that are creative, and not something that you’re going to find in your best friend’s kitchen when you go over for lunch.

Yes, I love my Smart Phone, but there’s still something wonderful about using simple pen and paper to scribble down my thoughts in black and white.I know can’t be the only one who loves cracking open a new package of Pilot pens, or who stares longingly at the leather-bound journals in the Levenger catalog.

I found myself in possession of some portabella mushrooms this week, and on observing their deep concavity, concluded that the best thing to do, would be to stuff them.Ricotta cheese works especially well as a filling because it has the ability to withstand a hot oven without melting all over the place. With spinach, onions and garlic added to the mix, you are left with a delicious and flavoursome topping.

Something I have noticed since giving up meat, is that it is not necessarily the meat that makes a meal taste so good, but the ingredients used to flavour it. One of the most common uses of sage is with pork, and when I roasted up some butternut squash with a bit of sage this weekend, I realised that it was the herb rather than the beast that had made me love roast pork all along. Good for me, good for the pork.

What does your kitchen look like?Is it clean, tidy, and as if you have Martha Stewart hiding in your pantry?Would you be more than happy for your inlaws to come into your kitchen right at this moment, and serve up a dinner party?Yeah, me neither. In one of those ever popular surveys conducted by the UK’s most popular appliance brand Hotpoint, it was discovered that 12% of the people asked...

I like a cupcake. They're just the right size, and they look quite pretty. But the way they're fetishised by adult women who like to pretend that their whole lives are vintage dresses, china tea-cups and whatever other form of infantile kitsch is currently du jour, (as opposed to the reality of Marlboro Lights, Jacobs Creek and Primark) kind of, you know, puts me off.
