Vegan Nibbles: Baked Oatmeal

I would make slow cooked oatmeal every morning if it didn’t take so long. I’d make instant oatmeal every morning if it wasn’t way more expensive than regular rolled oats and was made in the exact flavors I like. If you agree with me on both those points, well let me introduce you to baked oatmeal, friend! I baked up a big batch over the weekend and I’ll have perfect oatmeal all week long! I just pop it in the microwave for as long as it takes to brush my teeth and bingo, it's breakfast...

Nomtastic: Green Bean Casserole

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I decided for the month of November all my recipes would be things I love to eat during Thanksgiving. In the States, Thanksgiving marks the official beginning of the Holiday season. It’s mostly an excuse for everyone to be gluttons for a day while watching American football. I hate American football, but I LOVE all the food. Thanksgiving in my house is a carb orgy and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Vegan Nibbles: Roasted Tomato Soup

It snowed! It actually snowed real snow all over the place on Saturday. In October! Before Halloween! Everyone went nuts! I didn’t go nuts. I held a Halloween Twin Peaks marathon and made this roasted tomato soup. Ingredients1 lb plum tomatoes, cut into quarters2 Spanish onions, cut into quarters

Confessions of a Ribbon Addict

Ribbon is my weakness. The sight of reels and rolls of rainbow coloured satin sets my pulse racing and my bank account on edge. This time of year is when my ribbon lust reaches fever pitch. Only yesterday I purchased 25 metres of the stuff, then went home and stared at it for a little while. I arranged it artfully and took a few photographs, then wound it into neat little bundles and placed it back into the paper bag.

Nomtastic: Potato Leek Soup

Today was the perfect fall day. A crisp morning followed by a sunny afternoon that set the colors on the trees ablaze. The days of cozy sweaters are upon us, and I felt we needed an equally cozy soup to go along with such a wonderful day. This was the first time I ever made this soup and it is absolutely delicious. Even my husband, a known soup hater, kept telling me how good it was. This soup would even make a great base for a yummy clam chowder too.

Vegan Nibbles: Sweet Pumpkin Dip

Last Halloween I was instructed to "make some sort of sweet pumpkin dip thing."I didn't really know what I was doing and ended up with a loose pumpkin frosting that looked like pale orange soup. I was worried. Turns out there was no need because if you give people a frosting type substance and tell them to use cookies as dip vehicles, people really like it! And it turns out it's a thing!

Boozy Treats: Hot Toddy & Mulled Cider

Whilst the sound of ice rattling against the sides of a cocktail shaker has to be one of the most exciting I can think of, autumn is the time when my mind turns to hot drinks. Hot alcoholic drinks to be precise. From Halloween onwards, my mind turns to mulling. The urge to mull any alcoholic liquid becomes overwhelming. Experience has shown that it is best to stick to the classics and mull only red wine and cider. But there is a world of cockle-warming fun to be had with the remaining c...

Nomtastic: Mini Pumpkin Pies

It’s high time for pie time; pumpkin pie time. Miniature pumpkin pies to be exact. Yes, you read that right, mini-fucking-pies.Let’s be honest for a moment, shall we? I have an obsession with miniature things. The little girl in me squeals with delight any time I see something that has been shrunken to a perfect hand held size.

Vegan Nibbles: Orange Cardamom Truffles

My house is looking more and more like a Willy Wonka dream than a place to live as I'm trying to churn out close to 150 truffles by Friday. It was fun for a while, then tiring, then annoying, then oddly relaxing. While I'm riding out the oddly relaxing wave I thought I'd share one of the recipes I'm rolling up.

Vegan Nibbles: Chocolate Pudding

There is something spectacularly old fashioned and homey about a big bowl of pudding. Give me some pudding with whipped cream and I'm instantly transported back to the imaginary 1950s Americana diner -eating upbringing I did not have (see picture). Ingredients2 cups almond milk4 tablespoons corn starch or arrowroot powder
