For the person that has everything, what do you get them?
Well, if they fall into the category of 'man [or woman] who likes bacon' then try this homemade Bacon Vodka from the Brownie Points Blog.
It tastes as it sounds (make up your own mind on that) and smells like regular vodka with a meaty bacony whiff. The quicker you prepare it, the better the bacon smell will infuse.
The method's fairly simple but will need to be done about three/four weeks in advance (say, now).
How It Works
- Take three strips of bacon (or more, if you're feeling meaty)
- Take get some strong vodka (I used some strong Smirnoff blue label)
- Either select a jar specially for this or use the vodka bottle (tip some out to make space)
- Put bacon pieces in jar. If they don't fit cut them up or prod them harder
- (Optional: add crushed black peppercorns)
- Fill jar with vodka
- Cap jar and put in cupboard for three weeks
- After three weeks, remove and put in freezer (to solidify fats)
- Once fats are solidified (and looking very unappealing) remove from freezer
- Using a coffee filter, tea-towel or best filter you can find, strain vodka to remove all the crap.
- Decant into decorative bottles and enjoy.
I used small shot bottles, washed the labels off and made my own using printed stickers. Sticker-paper, as with most things in life, is widely available via ebay.
NB. When left in freezer it's best to mark bottle. I lived with a hungry vegan whilst making this who, whilst on a freezer raid came across this. She wasn't best pleased but it made me laugh.
