I exaggerate not, my chocolate loving friends – the recipe I am about to give you may well be one of the most delicious and wonderful substances ever created. It is smooth and deeply rich and chocolately, with occasional fruity bursts of flavour, and delicious crunchy biscuity bits. You can sit and eat a ladylike piece off a fine china plate, or you can ply it directly from the tray. This substance is known as Tiffin.
Tiffin is, in short, a no bake chocolate cake. Involving copious amounts of butter, chocolate, cornflakes, biscuits and raisins, it is my favourite edible substance. I bet it will be high up on any chocolate addicts list, to be honest!
Before I give you the recipe, a warning! My amounts and measurements are quite vague – the beauty of this is that you can pretty much add as much more of any ingredient as you want to, to make it perfect for you.
Ingredients
Quality dark chocolate
Butter
Digestive biscuits
Cornflakes
Raisins
Optional extras, such as desiccated coconut, white chocolate chips or toffee pieces.
Method
Melt the chocolate and butter together in a bowl placed over hot water. Stir it hard to ensure that it is fully blended and smooth. Regarding amounts, you probably want the mixture to drop like cake mixture – thick, but still flexible.
Into this mixture stir crushed biscuits, cornflakes and raisins. I also like to add some coconut for added texture. You are aiming to have all the ingredients coated in the chocolate mixture, with plenty to spare.
Spoon the mixture into a lined tray or casserole dish, and leave in the fridge to set. Then simply cut up and enjoy.
Top Tip: Let the set Tiffin reach room temperature before eating it, it is more delicious and gooey that way!
